New Macbook with old 23" Cinema Display by ADC

I've just bought a 15" macbook pro with retina display. I have this 10 year old 23" Cinema Display with an Apple Display Connector. I also have an adapter with a power source that converts the connection to DVI. From the DVI i use a DVI to Mini Display connection to plug into my new mac.

Great idea, but the Mac is not detecting the monitor.

Power is one to the monitor, but it stays a black screen.

Any ideas out there? Thanks.

Is the DVI to ADC adapter made by Apple? The Apple verion amplifies the DVI signals. Other versions don't. The Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter may produce a weaker than normal DVI signal, and may need the amplification.

Is the Mini DisplayPort adapter pushed in all the way in the Thunderbolt port. It may take more force than you expect.
